Problems in F451 are prevalent in lives of Carlo and Coral.

Coral was running fast, faster than the speed of light.  Almost too fast and it was late into the night.

“Where are you headed on this chilly eve?,” questioned her father Carlo said concerned.  He was on his way home.  He had to walk 2 miles in the chilly air from the G21 bus stop.  “You should be studying.  Have you forgotten the rule?  No free time or “you” time until your books are read from cover to cover.  Now lets go home, and do as I told.,” Carlo demanded strictly.

“Fine.,” Coral replied with a sigh.  Running was her only freedom and she was upset she couldn’t finish her route.

“Fine is not an answer; it is a smirk.  A smirk of disrespect that I will not accept.  Now, reply with a better tone.,”  Carlo demanded.

“I will go upstairs and study.,” Coral responded.

“Are you a decedent of a parrot?  If you don’t study then you won’t do achieve your goals.  Remember your goals Coral?  Remember the essay about your goals?  You want to get into collage Coral, isn’t that what you wrote down?  Am I mistaken Coral?,”  Carlo asked with a smile of superiority.

“You are right.  I do not know why I choose to run and did not study,”  Coral sighed, looking at the ground as if she could find an escape,  “sorry,” Coral said tiredly.

“Know next time,” Carlo said sternly.

“Ya,” Coral replied.

“Yes?,” Carlo mocked.

“Yes,” Coral repeated.

Coral walked up the snow dusted stairs to the town house.  She zipped down the pocket of her Teaberry Pink North Face and reached inside.  Coral grabbed her key chain with 3 keys.  The mail key, the house key and her safe key.  She opened the door with the house key and a gust of warm air met her face, that made it burn.  Her father was behind her, they had spent the last .5 of the mile home talking about collages, GPA’s and discipline.

“I feel really silly about not grounding you right now,” Carlo explained squinting his eyes.

“Oh,” Coral had nothing else to say.  She could not use her makeup, laptop, phone or itouch.  What else was there to lose? She sensed herself as a chameleon that would not change color; totally obscure from the lounge of lizards.  Coral went upstairs to study.  She studied chromosomes until her lids closed, her heart slowed down and her breathing got paced.  Coral fell in a sound slumber.

Anti-Oxidents and Recap

There are 2 parts of this post.  I am going to recap what I have discovered about the injured cell and then introduce my last blog topic about an injured cell.  There are 8 main ways that a cell becomes injured.  Just a few ways are radiation, heat, free radicals and not having homeostasis.  Cell injury eventually leads to cell death.  Cell injury can also be caused by free radicals.  Free radicals make healthy cells free radicals by taking their electron.  BUT, this new topic I am about to introduce called anti-oxidants can stabilize them.  Anti-oxidants are found in bright colored food and give one of their electrons away with out harming itself, so its like a win win.  Finally, if you see cells becoming injured because of free radicals now you know you can fix the problem with anti-oxidants!

Free Radicals

Free radicals are atoms with an unpaired electrons.  Free iron, radiation, drugs  tobacco smoking, gases and other elements can create free radicals usually in the mitochondria.  Free radicals are a leading cause for cell injury in organisms.  Free radicals are harmful if generated in excess or if the antioxidant defense is injured.  Free radicals then take electrons from other atoms to make itself stable, leaving the victim cell a free radicals too.  This chain won't end unless antioxidants come to stabilize the radicals.

8 Ways Cells Become Injured

2-19-13
Even though I have never suffered from a broken limb one of my friends has described the pain.  She was riding her Helies outside when she rolled on top of a rock and fell on her arm.  I would metaphorically die from the pain of a broken arm.  Just the thought of a sharp snap makes me light headed.  Injured cells don't have much time until they die.  In my last post I discuss what cell injury is so here are some ways cells become injured.
The 2 most common ways that cells get injured is through hypoxia and ischemia.
1) Hypoxia is when cells don't get the oxygen they need.  For example, drowning and chocking are two ways that hypoxia can occur.
2) Ischemia is when cells don't circulate blood like they should.  For example, having unhealthy veins and arteries they can develop ischemia.
Here are 6 other ways cells become injured.
3) Chemical Agents: Drugs, CO and Ethonal.  For example, smoking cigarettes prevents ones body from spreading the oxygen throught the body.
Of course we have all heard how bad drugs are for our health!!! This proves that repeated fact.
4) Infectious Agents and Tramas: Bacteria.  For example, when one has a cut on ones body and it gets infected, then cells will continue to die until the infected cells are all clear.
5) Genetic Effects:  Down syndrome, sickle cell anemia.  For example, the red blood cells could be squished and not be able to circulate well.
6) Nutritional Imbalances:  To much calcium.
7) Physical Agents: Traumas.
8) Aging.   This is the only unpreventable and natural way the cells die.

Injured Cell

An injured cell will eventually lead to cell death.  Cell death could lead to failure of an organ or organism.  Just like someone will eventually die without proper attention.  The injured cell can be reversible, which means that the cell can be saved and revert to it's original, healthy form.  There are a few ways that a cell can become injured: heat, radiation, lack of oxygen, un-proper blood flow, cell expanding, cell shrinking, cell multiplying or even a cell getting replaced by a different cell.  Homeostasis plays an important factor in a healthy cell.  Homeostasis is the setting the there is just a perfect amount of each nutrient.  Too much calcium, for example, will lead to a disturbed homeostasis environment.  Having a surplus or lack of nutrients can lead to an injured cell.  An injured cell can kill an organism or create failure of an organ.  The good news is that if the injury isn't too severe and caught early then the problem can be reversed in the cell.
